Tuna Route

Tuna fishing off the Algarve coast has played a crucial role in the region’s economy since at least the Iron Age (VIII BC – III BC). This fishing activity maintained its importance in the Roman and Paleochristian eras (3rd century BC – 7th century AD), with evidence of large fisheries found, for example, in representations on mosaics and minted coins.
