Former Tuna Fishing Complex

A unique example of the preservation of a fishing and working complex

Located on Praia do Barril beach, its origins date back to 1842. The space has been converted into a commercial area with shops, restaurants, cafés, ice-cream parlour and bar. The Tuna Route provides the opportunity to learn about the history of tuna fishing in the Algarve, more specifically the Tuna Fishing Complex of the “Três Irmãos” or Barril fishing company.
There are nine mandatory stops where you can learn more about the importance of bluefin tuna in the Algarve’s economy, the method of fishing in the trap complex and what daily life was like on the beach.
