Archaeological remains of Calçada D. Paio Peres Correia

There is an extensive area of excavations on Calçada D. Paio Peres Correia which were undertaken by the archaeologists Maria Maia and Manuel Maia, from the Tavira Archaeological Site. These excavations, which extend underneath the adjacent structures, have uncovered an upper level of medieval occupation and two older levels, showing traces of Turdetan and Phoenician occupation.
Structures dating from between the 7th century BC and the 18th century AD have also been identified on this site, including a section of an Islamic street and a Gothic arch. They can currently be seen here until they are transferred to the Museum Centre.
