Irene Rolo Building

The name by which it is known is through its association with the benefactor Irene Rolo (1893-1984), a native of Tavira and the former owner of the property.

Located on Rua da Liberdade street (formerly Rua Nova Grande), which is one of the main access routes into the city centre, the Irene Rolo Building shows residential elements from different periods.
Leaning against the outer face of the medieval wall, this building has three floors and the façade shows stonework mouldings from the 16th and 18th centuries. On the third floor there is a Renaissance moulding on the lintel on which there is a coat of arms showing the Royal Arms of Portugal, suggesting that this building may have been in public use, or that the moulding came from elsewhere.
