Church of the former convent of São Paulo
The church has a floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross, an unusual shape for churches in Tavira, and follows the “plain” architectural style
Inside, there are seven carved altarpieces, notable among which is the altarpiece of Our Lady of Mount Carmel due to its size and rich decoration. This and the other altarpieces in the nave were not gilded and painted as was customary in the Baroque period.
With the dissolution of the religious orders in 1834, the church was handed over to the brotherhood of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda. The convent wings and the boundary wall were sold at public auction and later destroyed.
