Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy

This small chapel is one of the places of worship in this city of churches

The chapel of Our Lady of Mercy, located near the Fountain in the square, belonged to the Nossa Senhora da Piedade brotherhood and was built in 1758, next to the castle wall. The chapel’s design was modelled on certain porticos at the convent of Graça, with the portal decorated with a burning heart pierced by a dagger.
The pediment of the chapel has a dynamic composition, decorated with plaster works. The interior features a carved altarpiece in the Rococo style, containing a painting of Our Lady of Mercy.
