André Pilarte House

An example of 16th century residential architecture in the Algarve

This 16th-century house was likely designed by the famous architect André Pilarte, who was also responsible for building the Misericórdia church. It is located at the top of Rua Alexandre Herculano street and, despite successive restorations, has not lost its 16th-century style.
On the ground floor, part of a Manueline doorway remains, with its expressive stonework forming a curved arch. The second floor has an elegant Renaissance oriel window with an exquisite projecting cornice.
