Ribeira Market

Following its refurbishment it is now a place with shops, restaurants and ample space for exhibitions

The old Ribeira Market, located on the right bank of the River Gilão at the southern end of the Coreto Garden, opened in 1887. It is a single-storey rectangular-shaped building with four entrances and a central covered space around which the different rooms are organised. The large space is covered by two metal-framed pavilions. This market remained in operation until 1999 (when the new Municipal Market was inaugurated), after which the space was redeveloped.
Today, the Ribeira Market is a landmark in Tavira and a multi-purpose space with shops and restaurants. The central courtyard is also used for holding concerts and shows.
