Chapel of São Roque

Its origins date back to at least the 16th century and it was restored in 2015

Rebuilt in the first half of the 18th century, the current chapel is a Baroque building with a single, vaulted nave, a chancel covered by a dome with a lantern and a tower with a pyramidal top. The façade features a portal, a bay window with ashlar mouldings and polychrome lime mortar work depicting lions and angels.
This chapel was administered by the Brotherhood of São Roque, made up of soldiers from the Tavira infantry regiment. In the early decades of the 20th century, the temple was desecrated and was eventually acquired by Tavira Town Hall. The building was refurbished in 2015.
