Megalithic Monuments

Funerary monument classified as a chamber dolmen

It consists of a chamber with a circular floor plan 3.2 metres in diameter, surrounded by nine pillars, three of which are still preserved, and a corridor.  There are more megalithic monuments in the parish, such as the Dolmen of Pedras Altas, composed of an elongated trapezoidal chamber made up of twelve pillars, a corridor and an entrance facing east. In the archaeological works carried out at the end of the 1970s, a rich collection was excavated, including pieces of chipped, honed and polished stone. The structural characteristics of these monuments suggest they can be chronologically related to the Late Neolithic or Chalcolithic periods.
