Tavira invites you to discover and get in touch with nature, through an exploration of its different environments and characteristic Mediterranean landscapes. This municipality, like the rest of the Algarve, offers a journey through three distinct zones: the mountains, the Barrocal and the coast. The mountains, an area marked by white houses spread across the hills, where agricultural activity has left its mark, are home to the most traditional fruit trees, such as carob, almond and fig trees, which are essential elements of local confectionery.
Between the mountains and the sea stretches the Barrocal, offering a unique landscape with vegetable gardens, orchards, olive groves, streams, the waterfalls of Vale da Assêca and, at the foot of the mountains, the Conceição de Tavira Forest Perimeter Leisure Park. This intermediate zone is a crossroads between biodiversity and fertile land, a place where nature and culture meet. Once you reach the coastline, the municipality of Tavira has more than 18 kilometres of coastline, including the dunes of the islands of Tavira and Cabanas. If you are looking for things to do in Tavira, then do visit the Ria Formosa Natural Park (PNRF), a protected wetland of considerable environmental value that is noteworthy for its international importance, a true natural wonder. For true nature lovers, there is plenty to do in Tavira.
